Nothing better than kicking off 2017 with a solid streak of releases, right?
, a neo-psychedelic band (comprised of Bryan Olson and Charles Glade) from Charlotte, NC, dropped their first track of the year titled “Countryside”, and our ears approve. Remember 2016? LOL. You could say it was a “tough” year. You could say it was a “rough” year. I will say, it was Russ‘s year. No doubt about it. One thing 2016 did do right by, the music. With streaming now being the number one source of the way the world listens to music, I have to thank our good, old, archaic radio for introducing me to Russ. A serial station hopper, I cannot keep one song on without furiously scanning in hopes of landing on a track that commands my attention. On my commute home a little over a year ago, I ditched my upbeat go-to ride along music and hit the local hip-hop station, and I was entranced. Russ’s “What They Want” so forcefully pulling me in. What is this beat? Who is this voice? Who is they and what DO they want? A beautiful knockout of a song, easily stomping a vast majority of what’s currently being played on all hip hop stations across America, still.  Continue Reading…

GIVEAWAY: Bear’s Den @ El Rey Theatre 1/17

In support of their sophomore release, Red Earth & Pouring Rain, British folk-rockers Bear’s Den are kicking off their North American tour this month. First stop on this headlining tour? The El Rey Theatre in LA on Tuesday January 17th! The band released the 12-track album last summer, and since then they’ve dropped a new song “Berlin” that landed just in time for the holidays. This Just In

Jens Lekman announces his new album Life Will See You Now, dropping February 17th via Secretly Canadian. This will be the fourth studio album for the Swedish singer/songwriter. Ewan Pearson (M83, The Chemical Brothers, Goldfrapp) was also brought on to help produce Life Will See You Now.

Along with the announcement of Lekman’s fourth album, he has also released the video for feel-good single “What’s That Perfume That You Wear?.” The single features steel-pan samples from the 1978 album The Path by Ralph MacDonald, a percussionist with a stellar line-up of collaborations.  Continue Reading…

Good, because we’re on each other’s team when it comes to this agreement. Not only can you expect EOTY-related posts *v soon* (don’t worry – we have some tricks up our sleeves, otherwise we’d throw the towel in at this point), but the blog has yet to announce giveaways to end 2016 & welcome 2017 on a *great* note.
