Bob Marley once said (sang), “One good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain.” At the risk of sounding melodramatic, I disagree. If anything, music makes you feel any and every emotion, changing with each track and your level of attention at that very moment. New York based duo, Hana Elion and JJ Mitchell aka Overcoats are the songwriting-harmonizing-electronic-folk-songstresses that dreams are made of. They describe their sound as “a sort of Chet Faker meets Simon & Garfunkel.” Their self-titled EP debuted in June of 2015, with a four song track-list. After embarking on a three-month tour playing noteworthy stops like Whelans in Dublin and a showcase at Longitude Festival, Overcoats continued songwriting and set out to make new music. Overcoats’ debut album, Young, is expected to release April 21st, 2017.

Today, the third single from their debut album, “Leave the Light On,” was released via Apple Music on Zane Lowe‘s Beats1 show. Overcoats will be going on tour this month in support of recently discovered musical genius, Maggie Rogers.

Brooklyn boiz, Beach Fossils, are back with exciting news about the release of their third LP, Somersault, coming out June 2nd. Along with the announcement of their new album, they have shared the first entrancing new single, “This Year.” A press release for the track quotes Beach Fossils’ Dustin Payseur, saying it’s “about facing mistakes you’ve made, aiming to work on it and better yourself, but ending up making the same mistakes again. It’s kind of an endless loop. People always aim to make New Year’s resolutions, get a fresh start, but ultimately fall back into these old band habits.” Continue Reading…
